United, Continental merger resulted in job losses; flight attendants bear brunt of cuts

The 2010 merger of United Airlines and Continental Airlines was followed by buyouts of about 2,900 union workers over the past 2 1/2 years at a cost to the company of $172 million, according to a United Continental Holdings Inc. regulatory filing. That averages out to $59,310 per worker.
